The Lone Star Award is given by the Texas Association for Play Therapy to local chapters exhibiting outstanding service to membership and to the promotion of play therapy and the credentialing of Registered Play Therapists.  Several criteria need to be met in order to receive this award and our Chapter is proud to be the first Lone Star Award recipient in the state of Texas!  We received the award at the Annual TAPT conference in Houston.

"Ethical Considerations Related to Group Play Therapy: Concerns about Confidentiality"

Working individually with children in play therapy requires careful ethical and legal practices. When multiple children are involved in the process, as in group work, adhering to ethical standards becomes more complex. Unfortunately, ethical standards do not offer much guidance on the specifics of working with children in play therapy and even more so do not address working with children in play therapy groups. Presenters will review professional literature for purposes of discerning ethical implications of working with children in a play therapy group setting. Specific attention will be given to confidentiality and relationships within the group. Attendees will be encouraged to explore ideas about resolving ethical dilemmas through real-world examples.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will understand the unique ethical implications of working with children in group play therapy.

2. Attendees will learn how to implement ethical practices when specifics of working with children in play therapy groups are not addressed.

3. Attendees will be challenged to address real-world examples of group play therapy and the ethical dilemmas that arise when working with children in groups.
